VISITING SPONSORED CHILDREN IN THE GAMBIA

Almedina Ramic, our new volunteer, who is also a sponsor, spent the Sunday afternoon in the company of both of the children her entire family has decided to help. First she met Dodou, whose name is really Muhammed, but nobody calls him that. The mother doesn’t speak English, so we had to translate. There were many neighborhood children, his younger brother and his younger sister around her as soon as we entered their house. Almedina handed the boy a brand new school bag, many new clothes, school supplies and toys. He couldn’t hide his joy and he had a big smile on his face every time he looked at his new treasures. He’s never been given such a present in his entire life which made his happiness even greater. Almedina also gave the mother some money. The mother’s prayers and words almost made her cry but she controlled herself because she wasn’t sure how the family would understand her tears.

Afterwards she met Adam and her father. The girl is much more shy than Doudou. Almedina gave her a new school bag, school supplies, clothes and toys as well. The girl drew her a picture in return. She also gave the father some money to use for what they needed the most. The father kept thanking her and he prayed for Almedina and her family. He invited her for a visit because he wanted her to meet the rest of the family.

It’s incredibly difficult to describe these feelings, powerful words and sincere prayers of parents whose children are helped by people who have never even met them.

WHY VISITING YOUR SPONSORED CHILDREN

The trust of our sponsors is the most important thing for us, which is why we try to work transparently and fairly! We also enable the sponsors, who help the children financially every month, to visit them in the Gambia. Our wish is that the children, their families and the sponsors get to know each other and make a connection. We want the sponsors to see the conditions in which the families life by themselves and make sure that their money really gets to them every month, without intermediaries.
