A journey to Africa must include animal life. Although there is no “Big 5” in The Gambia, there are over 500 bird species and many other animals to be spotted in The Gambia which makes  country a heaven destination for animal lovers.  Animal and bird-life is extremely diverse and exotic. Wildlife of the Gambia is dictated by several habitat zones over its total land area of about 10,000 km2.

Many people visiting animal parks and nature reserves have a big hope to spot their favourite animals, but it is good to remember that animals, that are not orphans and are not kept in closed area( because of healthy or other reasons), live in natural habitats. It means that you can’t always see all animal species you wish because of timing, both the time of the days and the time of the year; because of the fear animals have when smelling or hearing people and strange sounds; because of lack of the knowledge about animal habits and/or because of poor equipment if you are about to search specific animal species.
