The flag of the Gambia consists of three horizontal red, blue and green bands separated by two thin white fimbriations.
RED symbolizes the sun, the equatorial position of the country and the savannah (grasslands).
WHITE stands for unity and peace.
BLUE represents the Gambia River that flows between the green forest and the red savannah grasslands.
GREEN symbolizes the Gambia’s land, forests and agricultural produce.
It has been the flag of the Republic of the Gambia since the country gained independence in 1965. It remained unchanged throughout the Gambia’s seven-year confederation with Senegal.
